Official Documents and Publications
We believe that following Jesus is exciting, adventurous, and life changing and together we want to build a church family which expresses this and lives it out.
Redeemer Rotterdam started in January 2022 after Phil and Sarah Varley, who had been pastors in London for over 20 years, felt God speak to them about moving to Rotterdam and planting a new church.
Below you find the most important points from our statutes, and links to published reports and documents.
-
The purpose of the Church will be, in obedience to God’s infallible Word (“the Bible”), empowered by the Holy Spirit, to lead people to Jesus and His family, thereby coming to spiritual maturity and learning to exalt His name.

the provision of religious education in the broadest sense;
organising missionary and evangelical activities;
various media, such as the distribution and/or provision of Christian literature;

God: We believe in one true God who lives eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The word often used is ‘Trinity’, which is not a word from the Bible, but sums up the description of God we find there.
Father: We believe in God the Father, the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. He is perfect in love, holiness, wisdom, and judgement: perfect in every way. The Bible says that while not inferior, the Son and the Spirit proceed from the Father.
Son: We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal son of God. In human form, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary: true God and true man, yet without sin. We are made right with God (justified) through Jesus’ death and resurrection, and this is our only way to salvation. He ascended to heaven and is at the right hand of the Father above every other power and authority. He represents us to God and God to us.
Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit who is with the church forever, teaching and guiding in all truth. He leads us all in service of the world and the church. He gives spiritual gifts to every follower of Jesus, for the good of the whole body of Christ. Every believer has the Holy Spirit living in them, supernaturally empowering them, and confirming life in Christ and eternity with God.
Universal church: We believe in the one universal church as the body of Christ, represented on earth by many different local churches. This universal church is called to bring the life, power, love, character, and authority of God into people’s lives.
Bible: We believe in the Bible: the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments (canonised and commonly recognised), as inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings. They are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
Sin: We believe mankind was created in the image of God, into a perfect world. However, he sinned, which brought about physical death and spiritual death: separation from God. Everyone is born with a sinful nature, and sins in things they think, say and do. Life doesn’t end when we die, we will all face judgement before God, and we all need a saviour.
Salvation: Jesus died so that we could live! Our salvation relies solely on the grace of God through faith in Jesus. Anyone, who sincerely repents of their sin, and believes and receives the good news about who Jesus is and what He did, is born again in the Holy Spirit, and is adopted by God as a son or daughter. This brings eternal life with God, and new life here on earth.
Jesus is coming back: We believe Jesus will return. He will establish a new Heaven and a new Earth. There will be no more pain, sickness, sorrow or death and everything will be made new!
